Soccer Failure

I feel like I had a major setback at practice.  Carrie, who wanted to join a soccer team, complained, cried, screamed, disrupted and generally misbehaved for at least an hour of a 90 minute practice today.  She said that she was bored, it was not fun, and that she couldn’t do it.  A few times I prompted her to think about the opposite of her “I can’t” thoughts and say “I can” aloud.  At the 1 hour mark I lost my cool and told her we were leaving. I threatened to throw all of her soccer gear in the trash and that her soccer days were over.  She was visibly upset at me, and I was yelling quite a bit.  I fear that I may have exacerbated her PTSD.  We sat in the car for about 10 minutes and talked a little bit more about her negative thoughts and what we could do to turn that around.  She stated strongly that she didn’t want to quit soccer, and that she would go out and try really hard if I would let her.  By that time she only had about 15 minutes left, and behaved like a different person.  She actually participated and looked like she was having fun.

I know I’m being a little impatient, but I'm going to ask if it would be possible/advisable to start TF-CBT in tandem with PCIT.

Behavior Problems

For the past several mornings Carrie has been getting up very early to watch TV.  Sometimes she gets up at 5am and maybe earlier.  This morning she fell asleep while watching TV and then her behavior made it nearly impossible to get ready for school.  She whined and cried for more than 30 minutes straight.  In fact, she was still crying when Keefer took her out the door.  She wouldn't choose a shirt to wear, wouldn't choose pants to wear, or shoes, etc.  She repeatedly insisted that she wasn't going to school because she was tired and was blaming Keefer for making her wake up and stay awake.  At one point she started hitting herself and said that she was going to keep on doing it.  We both ignored it, and it lasted less than a minute.

Even though Keefer and I have continued doing special play time at home, she has experienced several of these "relapses" since we last saw her therapist.
